New Star Trek Beyond Footage Is Coming, Find Out When And Where

Attendees at CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week were stunned when Paramount concluded its footage presentation without showing anything new from Justin Lin’s Star Trek Beyond, this summer’s blockbuster sequel, and the third installment with the new cast. Heck, Paramount didn’t even show the most recent trailer from a few weeks back (which we will share below). What gives? It turns out Paramount was saving its Star Trek footage for a different event. Here’s what you need to know.

Courtesy of a studio press release, we have learned that Paramount plans to host the first ever fan event on behalf of Star Trek Beyond that will take place on May 20 in Los Angeles. Director Justin Lin explained that the celebration would help recognize the sci-fi series’ milestone 50th Anniversary, also taking place this year, and the film's release this summer. Said Lin:

As a lifelong fan of Trek, we wanted to do something special for the fans, and we couldn't think of a better way to do that than creating an event dedicated to them in the year that we also come together to celebrate the series’ amazing 50th year.

The one-time only special event will be held on the Paramount Pictures studio lot in Los Angeles, and is expected to include the premiere of the newest Star Trek Beyond trailer. (Hopefully, for the rest of us, this means it will be online immediately after that.) Beyond the trailer (no pun intended), the event will screen an exclusive first-look of never before seen footage from the upcoming film, then be followed by a Q&A with Lin and the cast and crew, special guests appearances, and other surprises. Good news, though. The Q&A will be streamed via Facebook Live, likely on the official Star Trek page.

Opening on July 22, Star Trek Beyond is a Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark, Perfect Storm Entertainment production that stars John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoë Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin and Idris Elba. We don’t know a ton of information about the film’s plot, as the last trailer that dropped ramped up the action while scaling back on specific details.

However it sounds like a LOT of details will come out of the Star Trek Beyond fan event, through the footage screening at the Q&A, so stay tuned for May 20, Trekkies. All will be revealed soon.
