Star Wars: Episode VIII May Include This Epic Jedi Battle
The following may contain spoilers for Star Wars: Episode VIII. Read at your own risk
While Star Wars: Episode VIII is still a year and a half away, everybody is hard at work filming it as we speak. When that happens, rumors are bound to leak out, and while it can be frustrating to read about what’s going to happen in a movie that won’t hit screens until a year from Christmas, sometimes learning what’s planned just makes you want to see the real thing, because no description can possibly do justice to the thing that’s being described. Like a massive lightsaber battle with Luke Skywalker and Rey on one side, and all of the Knights of Ren on the other.
The details of the sequence come from Making Star Wars, and purport to describe a massive Jedi battle that was recently filmed at the location in Ireland where Star Wars: Episode VIII's production is currently located. The scene reportedly contains seven black-clad, and black helmeted, figures who were photographed on the shoreline of Malin Head in County Donegal. These figures are almost certainly the same black helmeted figures that we saw in Rey’s vision during Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the Knights of Ren. Apparently, the seven characters advance, with Kylo Ren, sans mask, in the lead. Kylo and Rey begin to duel one-on-one while the rest of the crew advances on Luke. Apparently, Luke force pushes one of the knights to his death (off a cliff?) before igniting his recognizable green lightsaber and engaging the rest of the opposition. While no specifics are given, Luke reportedly wipes the floor with the remaining five of them. It’s apparently so one-sided that when Kylo Ren realizes he’s left one-on-one with Luke (he apparently defeats Rey here, but how is unclear), he retreats rather than face his former master.
Sometimes being forced to report on spoilers sucks, but honestly, I hope this turns out to be true, just so I can see it. While the prequel trilogy gave us a couple of two-on-one lightsaber battles, that was as big as the Jedi battles got. Even the end of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, which did give us multiple Jedi in one fight, had them fighting against droids. This would be the largest fight sequence we’ve seen in the saga where all the combatants had lightsabers and force powers.
This certainly sounds like the sort of thing we’d like to see in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Hopefully, this means we’ll also be getting some more details about exactly who all of the Knights of Ren really are. What do you think of this potential scene? Let us know in the comments.
