After The Chronicles of Riddick flopped back in 2004, Hollywood put David Twohy in director jail. Now he’s out, and ready to make a new movie. This one will not have a certain bald, heavily muscled actor.
The movie is The Perfect Getaway, and HR says Steve Zahn is joining the cast alongside Timothy Olyphant, who has been bald before but has hopefully, by now anyway, grown his hair back. Zahn will play one half of a newlywed couple on their honeymoon in Hawaii. It’s not a very good honeymoon, because they run into two hitchhikers (one of whom is Olyphant) who turn out to be vicious killers. Yeah, this is that kind of movie.
I feel kind of bad for Twohy. A few years ago he was riding high, creating his own science fiction universe based on his Riddick character, and now he’s been reduced to making a celebritized version of Turistas. Maybe he’ll find some new twist on it, though that’s kind of hard to imagine. I’m pretty sure that by now The Ruins, Hostel, Turistas, Vacancy and all the rest have the whole “terrorizing vacationers” thing covered.
