The Strangest Thing Johnny Depp Has Done As Capt. Jack Sparrow
After everything Johnny Depp has done in his role as Captain Jack Sparrow, we thought we’d seen it all. Turns out Depp has at least one surprise left for us because the pirate is actually just a big softy. Don’t believe it? Here’s Captain Jack feeding a baby bat. No that’s not a euphemism, he’s actually feeding a baby bat.
The video comes courtesy of the Australian Bat Clinic & Wildlife Trauma Centre and their Facebook page. Depp has been in Australia shooting Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, and while there he has adopted an orphaned bat - which has been named Jackie Sparrow in his honor. Now we get the strange and adorable site of the less than honorable pirate doing quite the noble thing. We’re not sure what’s more bizarre: seeing Capt Jack feed a baby animal, or hearing Johnny Depp sound like Johnny Depp while dressed as Jack Sparrow.
Depp adopted the bat back in May and the centre has been keeping followers updated on its progress. He’s done an incredible thing for the organization and the cause, as a quick glimpse at the centre’s Facebook stats show that putting Johnny Depp on your page will cause your numbers to skyrocket. We’ve long been under the impression that nobody is having more fun with the Pirates of the Caribbean movies than Depp himself. He also uses those superpowers for good. This isn’t the only touching thing he has done while down under. A few weeks ago he visited a children’s hospital, also in character, to help lift the spirits of sick kids.
Depp is the second Disney associated star to use their Disney stardom to be awesome/adorable in the last week. Frozen voice actress Kristen Bell recently called a fan who is suffering from cancer in character as Princess Anna. Yeah, we know. You want to hate the multinational conglomerate that has purchased your childhood, but sometimes you just can’t.
No word if Jackie Sparrow will get a cameo in the new movie. He’s got the perfect accessory to play a bat in a pirate movie. A skull shaped bat pacifier. Are you prepared for the cute?
Various film delays are keeping Depp in his Sparrow get up for longer than usual. It’s nice that he’s keeping himself busy, and doing nice things, with the extra time.
