Suicide Squad Adds Twilight Actor
David Ayer's Suicide Squad is going to be starting production soon, but you didn't really think that was going to stop it from continuing to add to its gigantic cast, did you? This ensemble just isn't ready to stop growing yet, and new reports are now coming in saying that actor Alex Meraz has signed on as the latest addition to the comic book movie.
Variety was the first to drop the news online, though what's unfortunate is that they don't seem to have any details regarding what Meraz's role in the movie will be. If you're a fan of sparkly vampire teen fiction, it's likely that you recognize Meraz, as starred in The Twilight Saga: New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn - Part 1 as Paul, one of the franchise's many werewolves. He recently also appeared in the British miniseries New Worlds, which also featured Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan.
If you've been following the development of Suicide Squad thus far, you know that Alex Meraz isn't exactly the first actor to join the cast of the DC Comics film. Instead, the ensemble action film has been growing in size ever since Will Smith, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney and Cara Delevingne were confirmed to be in the movie last December. Since then, the movie has added Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Adawale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Karen Fukuhara, Jay Hernandez, Adam Beach, Jim Parrack, Scott Eastwood, Ike Barinholtz, and Common in various roles. Basically, whatever Meraz's part is - whether he is one of the good guys, one of the bad guys, or playing a more neutral role - we probably shouldn't expect it to be all the big. That being said, it's a gig that also could potentially become something much bigger down the line in the growing DC Cinematic Universe.
On a fun trivia note, it's worth pointing out that Alex Meraz is actually the second actor to make the jump from Twilight werewolf to comic book movie. After all, last year saw Boo Boo Stewart portray the mutant Warpath in X-Men: Days of Future Past:
Suicide Squad has officially started production up in Toronto, Canada, and the big anti-hero blockbuster is expected to be in production for the next few months. Stay tuned in the next couple days/weeks for more updates on Alex Meraz's casting, and look for the finished product in theaters when Warner Bros. releases it on August 5, 2016.
