Suicide Squad: Check Out Jared Leto's First Green-Haired Joker Picture

Over the last several weeks, Jared Leto’s gradual transformation into The Joker for Suicide Squad has been teased over social media, but now we finally have a good look at the green hair the actor will be rocking next year. Take a look!

Leto originally took this picture of himself on Snapchat and later posted it on Twitter, although that tweet has since been deleted. Mashable is one of the many sites that picked up the image and ran with it. This shade of green is much more reminiscent of Jack Nicholson’s Joker hair as opposed to Heath Ledger’s, and is basically the same color as in the comics. The way his lips are pursed also add to the sinister feel of the image, which for the Joker is fantastic…even if you don’t want to look at it for too long.

Leto’s hairstyle for the film was first teased last month when director David Ayer posted a picture of the actor’s hair freshly cut. Afterwards the hair was dyed platinum blonde so that the process of turning it green would be easier. We saw a hint of his green hair when Ayer tweeted a picture of Leto holding up a camera (an homage to the story The Killing Joke), but this new image is by far our best look at the iconic emerald locks. Aside from his costume, all that’s left now is to give Leto the character’s white skin and ruby lips. When all the makeup is applied, Leto might look something like the image below.

The actor also might have teased the voice he’ll be using as the Clown Prince of Crime at a concert last month, which sounded extremely creepy. It’ll be hard to get a full read on Leto’s Joker until we see an image or scene from a trailer, but by all accounts, it sounds like we’ll be getting a unique and terrifying new version of Joker next year on the big screen.

Suicide Squad will follow a group of supervillains who have been incarcerated by the U.S. government. In exchange for performing high-risk, black-ops missions, they receive commuted prison sentences. Although Joker’s exact role in the film hasn’t been officially disclosed, most reports describe him as not being part of the actual team, but simply being held at the same jail the Squad members are kept, possibly to keep his on-and-off girlfriend Harley Quinn in check. Joker is also frequently described as one the film’s three lead characters, so expect to see his horrific visage frequently.

Suicide Squad will be released in theaters on August 5, 2016.
