Suicide Squad May Add Another Female Comic Character
When David Ayer's Suicide Squad was first announced, we assumed that it was going to be used as a platform for DC Comics and Warner Bros. to establish big screen versions of many notable c0mic book villains... but things are starting to get a tad ridiculous. In addition to the likes of Joker, Harley Quinn and Deadshoot - who are expected to headline the movie - recent reports have said that there will be many, many other notable characters making appearances. This new story adds yet another name to that growing list, as new rumors suggest that the 2016 blockbuster will feature the feature film debut of the explosive villain Plastique.
Earlier today, The Wrap reported that newcomer actress Karen Fukuhara has signed on for an undisclosed role in Suicide Squad, but now a reporter from Latino-Review is claiming to have inside knowledge about who she will play. According to their sources, Fukuhara may be playing the aforementioned Plastique a.k.a. Bette Sans Souci, who is a metahuman with the ability to generate detonations via touch. What's more, it's added that the movie won't have her first featured in a prison (like many of the previously rumored characters), but instead her appearance in the film will reportedly take place during a scene in a nightclub.
Plastique was first introduced to the DC Universe by writer Gerry Conway and artist Pat Broderick, and what makes her potential inclusion significant is the fact that she has spent time in the comics as a member of the Suicide Squad (a group of highly dangerous and incarcerated supervillains who accept deadly black ops missions in return for commuted sentences). She actually very recently received appeared in live-action, as the character was played by Kelly Frye on The CW's The Flash.
It doesn't sound like Plastique will get the chance to be a member of the gang this time around - with the roster filled out with Deadshot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) - but who knows what the future may hold?
In addition to the possible inclusion of Karen Fukuhara as Plastique, reports from the last few weeks have also suggested that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be playing Killer Croc, Raymond Olubowale may be playing King Shark, Jackie Earle Haley may be playing The Thinker, and that Joe Manganiello will be the first big screen version of Deathstroke. With production on the movie ramping up to start very soon, hopefully we will start hearing confirmations on the matter one way or another in the coming weeks. If not, we'll just plan to be excited for some big cameos when Suicide Squad arrives in theaters on August 5, 2016.
