Super Troopers 2 May Happen
The Broken Lizard comedy troupe – consisting of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske – have stayed consistently busy since breaking on the scene with the Sundance hit (and eventual cult classic) Super Troopers. To their credit, the team avoided making sequels to their various pitches, instead cranking out horror spoofs (like Club Dread) and the sports-drinking comedy, Beerfest. But the lure of a sequel has proven too great, and so Broken Lizard appears to be going back to the well.
Chandraskehar and Heffernan spoke with ComingSoon about a possible Super Troopers sequel, which had been rumored for years. The duo finally admitted:
Heffernan added that the team actually has written a script for a second Troopers, which the studio "loved,” so this sounds like more than wishful thinking. And if all goes well with a Troopers sequel, the pair said they’ve also floated the idea of a Beerfest sequel, with a slight tweak. They’re envisioning something called Potfest, and they’ve already heard from famous smokers like Willie Nelson, Cheech Marin and Snoop Dogg, who all expressed interest in participating. So the Broken Lizard squad could be getting very busy in the next few months and years, which is great news for fans who’ve been waiting to expand on their brand of comedy and possibly rise to the level of the wacky Troopers, which charmed audiences way back in 2001.
