I’m always leery about movie titles that parody other movie titles (unless the movie itself is a parody.) So news that Lighthouse Entertainment will begin filming Endless Bummer in a few weeks does not fill me with excitement. Endless Summer is a classic 1966 surfing documentary about two guys traveling the world to surf the perfect wave, while Endless Bummer is a teen surfing comedy starring a bunch of no-names.
Variety has named the no-names and they include Khan Chittenden, Andy Fischer-Price, Colton James, Jane Leeves, Ray Santiago, Allison Scagliotti and Joan Jett. Rocker Jett is the only recognizable name in the bunch although some people might remember Leeves as the Virgin Marla in “Seinfeld.” One of the no-names will play a guy who has his surfboard stolen and goes with his “misfit” buddies on a search to get it back.
The script was written by first-time writer John Drury, John F. Sullivan, and Sam Pillsbury based on Drury’s experience as a Ventura, California surfer in the mid 1980s. Pillsbury who primarily directs television will helm the flick. The founder of the Vans Warped Tour, Kevin Lyman, will be an executive producer and the plan is to link the tour and the movie during promotions. I can’t wait.
