Tarsem Singh Confirmed To Direct His Own Take On Snow White
A slight update to a story we ran a few weeks ago that The Fall director Tarsem Singh had been offered the gig directing Snow White, one of several projects percolating out there that takes on the classic fairy tale with a new twist. The project, in development at Relativity Media from the spec script by Melisa Wallack, was one of the first of the new Snow White stories out there, and now it may be one of the first to actually get made. Deadline reports that Singh has accepted the job, and will start filming in March once he wraps up his mythological epic The Immortals.
The biggest competition for the film comes form Universal, where they're developing Snow White and the Huntsman, with newcomer Rupert Sanders attached to direct and all kinds of names, from Tom Hardy to Charlize Theron to Johnny Depp, rumored for the big major parts. Universal and Relativity are usually buddies-- Relativity co-finances a huge percentage of their slate-- so the odds of both films happening as scheduled, and both being released by Universal, are nonexistent. I'm not sure what kind of game of chicken is going on between the two, but bringing on Singh is a huge step forward for the Relativity project. We'll see what kind of casting rumors go from here to further up the ante.
