Terminator Genisys Spot Has Tons Of New Action Footage, More JK Simmons
Were you a little bit disappointed by the first Terminator Genisys trailer? If so, then JK Simmons is here to turn your frown upside down, because he has stolen the first UK television spot for the upcoming blockbuster. Well, it also helps that there is tons of new action scenes in the clip, too. You check out the latest footage for Terminator Genisys below.
It’s a start. The plethora of winks and nods to the James Cameron’s Terminator films in the first Genisys trailers hinted that it would make the same mistakes as Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines and Terminator Salvation. And while I’m not completely satisfied that won’t still be the case, at least we were able to get a deeper sense of the mood and characters with this new minute-long Genisys spot.
It certainly makes it easier to do that when you unleash the Academy Award-winning actor you have on your roster. And while it’s safe to say that Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, and Jason Clarke will be doing most of the heavy lifting in Genisys, Whiplash’s JK Simmons proves in just a few lines that he will be able to bring a lightness to the proceedings without disrupting the rhythm or intensity of its action scenes.
Simmons will portray Detective O’Brien in Terminator Genisys, and it’s hard not to get excited about the thought of him playing the weary and alcoholic detective who has been chasing Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke) and a cavalcade of robots for more than three decades. By the looks of the above clip, O’Brien does finally get Connor in a pair of handcuffs, but during his interrogation, she soon convinces him that the world is on the brink of destruction, which, I’m guessing, will lead to him joining her merry band of T-1000 battlers.
But other than our first look at Simmons, the above footage also gives us a glimpse at Jason Clarke’s scarred and war-torn John Connor, who ominously teases as a voiceover, "It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. There’s a storm coming. And it won’t be stopped." There’s also plenty of gun fire, a hint at the machines that Jason Clarke has to go up against, and an injured JK Simmons running through the police precinct as a sway of other officers confront what just attacked him.
All in all, the clip does a pretty good job of teasing Terminator Genisys. I can’t say that they’ve had the same rousing effect that Avengers: Age Of Ultron’s spots have had on me, but it makes Genisys look moody, funny and relentless. We’ll see if the final product can match or add to that when Terminator Genisys is released on July 1.
