Terrorism Takes Flight
Let me preface this news story by saying that I live in New York, and it was tough enough going through 9/11 the first time around. Since a few years have passed, now it's fair game to jump all over the tragedy and turn it into a marketing device. For the love of all that is holy--- find a new topic to cover!
Variety reports that a movie called Flight 93 is being made about United Airlines Flight 93, which crashed in a field in Pennsylvania on 9/11. The film is based on the speculation that passengers formed an uprising against the terrorists, leading to the crash. Another theory is that the flight was shot down by a military order, but that doesn't quite make for the same heartfelt story, now does it?
Paul Greengrass has started shooting the film in London for Working Title Films and Universal Pictures. The movie will unspool in real time, tracking what happened in the aircraft and on the ground. Of course, nobody survived that flight, which makes the entire movie a work of fiction. Keep an eye out for "based on a true story" headlines to pop up regardless.
The film is produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, and Lloyd Levin. It crash lands into theaters on April 28.
