Think Like A Man Getting A Sequel
Earlier this year, when Tim Story’s ensemble comedy Think Like a Man was holding on tight to the top of the box-office charts, we speculated that Sony/Screen Gems easily could trigger a sequel because Steve Harvey wrote a follow up relationship-self-help book. Well, the sequel’s moving forward, though we’re waiting for confirmation as to whether Harvey’s follow-up book will inform the second movie.
Here’s what we know: Thanks to a series of positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth (largely based on Kevin Hart’s rowdy performance), Think Like a Man posted a $91 million take at the domestic box office. At the time the film made headlines because it was the movie that knocked The Hunger Games out of the No. 1 slot on the charts. Then it made headlines again by staying at No. 1 until The Avengers finally toppled it in May.
Screen Gems has revealed in a press release that they’ve greenlit the sequel, hiring original screenwriters Keith Merryman and David A. Newman to tackle the script. The first movie was based on Harvey’s best-seller Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. In addition to that book, though, Harvey also released the book Straight Talk, No Chaser: How to Find and Keep a Man, which could give Merryman and Newman plenty of material for a second script.
But who from the original cast will return? It’s unclear if Screen Gems inked the players to sequel deals, though Think Like A Man earned raves for the ensemble’s chemistry. However, with marquee names like Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Gabrielle Union, Michael Ealy, and Meagan Good in the cast, those talents could ask for big dollars to return, so it will be interesting to see in what direction Screen Gems heads.
