New Thor: The Dark World Clip Has The God Of Thunder Arriving On The Battlefield
From the very beginnings of Thor: The Dark World's development we have heard word that the sequel would be transporting the audience not just to a new version of Asgard, but also to the other realms within the titular hero's universe. Today we get a quick glimpse of what we will be able to see in those new worlds, as Marvel has unveiled a brand new clip from the movie.
Watching this new clip, it quickly becomes apparent that Thor: The Dark World is going to be doing some things much differently than Kenneth Branagh's original from 2011. While the earlier movie did contain some solid action sequences - including the battle against the Frost Giants in Jotunheim and the fight against the Destroyer in New Mexico - those scenes were also fairly small from a scale perspective and depended a lot on the magic of computer graphics. While there are obviously plenty of visual effects in this clip from the new film, this is also a battle scene that has heroes like Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Sif (Jaimie Alexander) and Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) fighting against actual actors in costumes on a giant battlefield. This is the arena where having a former Game of Thrones director on board is really helpful, and hopefully it shows through the rest of the movie as well.
After months of releasing trailers and TV spots, it's clear that Marvel and Disney have moved into the clip phase of marketing Thor: The Dark World. In addition to the battlefield clip at the top of this post, recent weeks have revealed one minute scenes featuring Thor making a deal with his incarcerated, villainous adopted brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Christopher Eccleston's Malekith The Accurrsed waking up from a long slumber to speak to his army of Dark Elves and plan vengeance against the Asgardians. You watch watch both of those sequences below:
Scripted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley, Thor: The Dark World begins as the God of Thunder returns to Asgard to throw his duplicitous brother in an Asgardian prison and find a way to reunite with his love Jane Foster (Natalie Portman). Unfortunately, it's at this time that the evil Malekith and the Dark Elves - a race thought to long be extinct - find a way back into our universe. Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Kat Dennings, Tadanobu Asano, Rene Russo and Anthony Hopkins all reprise their roles from the first movie, while new additions to the franchise include Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Zachary Levi. See the movie when it arrives in theaters on November 8th.
