The deeper we dive into the Marvel Cinematic Universe the closer we come to one undeniable truth: people are going to start dying. While we don’t know exactly when or how it will begin to happen, it’s a near certainty at this point that some of the characters that we’ve grown very close to over the years will begin to fall. Now, word is coming out that we may lose a fan favorite when Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters next year. Potential spoilers for the next Thor movie follow. You have been warned.
The rumor comes courtesy of Latino Review, who says that they have seen the current state of the story for Thor: Ragnarok. According to their source, the movies lead villain Hela, possibly played by Cate Blanchett, will lead an attack on Asgard early in the film that will result in the destruction of Thor’s hammer as well as the death of one character.
It looks like Thor: Ragnarok may be the last time we see Idris Elba as Heimdalll; the word is that his character will be the one killed by Hela. While his initial death will take place near the beginning of the film, it sounds like that won’t be quite the last we see of him, as the movie’s final battle is said to contain a massive battle between two armies of dead spirits, one of which will be lead by the newly dead Heimdall.
If true, this will be upsetting to see as many fans love Idris Elba and his role in the Thor movies. Having said that, Elba has also made it clear that there are aspects of filming these movies that’s he’s really not a fan of himself. It could be coming as a great relief to him that he may be close to done. There’s also the distinct possibility that he asked for the death himself due to his unhappiness. There are plenty of named characters from these films who could have been the one to get the ax, and any could have been just as useful as a tool to raise the stakes of the film.
This news comes shortly after word that we might be losing additional lives in Captain America: Civil War as well. It’s looking like Marvel’s Phase 3 is going to be pretty dark; we could be losing many characters between here and Avengers: Infinity War. What do you think of the death Heimdall?
