As a writer and director, Todd Field has primarily taken us to the darker side of idyllic suburban life, from the murder and despair of In the Bedroom to the quieter decay of Little Children. And while he may only end up writing a planned adaptation of the period crime novel The Creed of Violence, it'll still mark a big departure for Field.

Variety notes in their write-up that Field usually doesn't write a film unless he's directing it, so there's still a decent chance that he'll pick this one up as well. The novel by Boston Teran takes place in 1910, following a loner and a government agent as they try to take down an arms struggling ring. I love the setting, love the concept, and love the notion of what Field might do with it. Get him signed on as director and I'll be fully committed to be excited.
