Trailer Trash: Surfer, Skinwalkers, 10, Vacancy
When trailers fall in between the Cinema Blend’s couch cushions, they eventually get vacuumed up and deposited here in Trailer Trash. Today's bag of Trailer Trash contains four future viewing possibilities, and one golden oldie.
First up is a new TV spot for The Fantastic Four. This one contains actual information about the film. Then put your indie-film guy hat on and watch the star-studded first trailer for The Ten. Famke Janssen gets hotter ever year. Then all your worst hotel nightmares (except the ones involving a blacklight) come true in the trailer for the new Luke Wilson/Kate Beckinsale horror/thriller Vacancy. Fourth in line is a trailer for the latest attempt at making werewolf movies cool, Skinwalkers. Last, a look back at the trash classic, original 1994 Fantastic Four movie made by Roger Corman. It’s clobberin time.
Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer – tv spot
So far we haven’t seen much of the new Fantastic Four sequel aside from the Silver Surfer. The film’s first trailer is just a chase scene between Surfer and the Human Torch, and tells us almost nothing about the plot. Well now we have a new TV Spot, which tells us a little of what the movie is about. Surfer shows up on Earth causing “strange occurrences” and the Four figure out that everywhere he goes, the planet dies 8 days later. Some of the dialogue is a little awkward, but it’s an effective little 30 second teaser, a big improvement on the stunted chase scene trailer we’ve been stuck with till now. The Ten – teaser trailer
The Ten takes the ten commandments and tells ten modern stories with them. It’s the new movie from the guys who brought you ‘Stella’ and ‘The State’, two things which I really hate, so by all rights I shouldn’t be looking forward to it. But the cast is just too good to ignore: Famke Janssen, Paul Rudd, Jessica Alba, Gretchen Mol, Adam Brody, Rob Corddry, Oliver Platt, Winona Ryder, Live Schrieber… and a lot more. The first teaser trailer for The Ten is out and on the web. It’s really not much more than a video cast list with some oh-so important sounding music behind it. Luke Wilson and the luscious Kate Beckinsale star as a couple whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, where they are forced to spend the night at the only motel around, with only the TV to entertain them... until they discover that the lowbudget slasher movies they're watching were all filmed in the very room they're sitting in. With hidden cameras now aimed at them…trapping them in rooms, crawlspaces, underground tunnels…and filming their every move, they fight to escape. The first trailer is up, and actually kind of cool. It helps that the film has a great cast. Watch it in high-res by clicking here or just click play on the embedded video below.
Skinwalkers - trailer
Skinwalkers is the latest take on the whole werewolf thing. Werewolf movies are usually, almost by default, crap. But Skinwalkers may be taking a slightly different direction than the norm with it. The first trailer for the film is out, and in a really weird way it plays out like a mirror image of the trailers for the first Highlander movie, only with a grungy small town instead of a city, and werewolves instead of immortals. Maybe it’s not very original, but Highlander isn’t bad source material to steal from. The trailer has me interested. Watch it by going here or just click play on the embedded video below:
CLASSIC TRASH: Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four (1994)
Before Tim Story hired a bunch of computer animation artists and made his take on it, there was another Fantastic Four movie. Made by Roger Corman, it was a slapdash affair made fast and on a shoestring budget. It was a ploy to hang on to the film’s rights, they weren’t really out to make a decent movie. The result was never released in theaters, but it lurks out there in the homes and on the shelves of collectors. Thanks to the magic of YouTube, the movie’s trailer is out there too. Take a look at the Fantastic Four movie you missed in 1994:
