Trailer of War
"The first and most important rule of gun running is never get shot with your own merchandise".
Leave it to Lions Gate Films to find a way to turn the shady art of gun dealing and war mongering into a tongue and cheek action/dramatic-comedy. Nicholas Cage's next film, Lord of War is just that.
Cage plays Yuri Orlov an international weapons dealer (with an American accent) who has made millions in his trade and whose goal is to have one weapon for every person on the planet. Think of him like a used car salesman, only with automatic assault weapons instead of Chevy Novas. Despite their best efforts, no government agency has been able to take him down. Somewhere along the way he meets a beautiful woman who falls in love with him. Naturally, she has no idea what he really does for a living. Girls, beware friendly, balding rich men who say they're in the "transport" business.
If the trailer is any indication, the film's script is rather humorous in a dark but witty way. I'm not sure if this is really the kind of light through which we should be looking at some of the most heartless people on the planet, but the movie's publicity promises some heartfelt soul searching on the part of our heroic gun dealer. Huzzah. The film also stars Ethan Hawke as a frustrated Interpol agent (with an American accent) and Bridget Moynahan as Orlov's beautiful but ignorant love interest. On a side note, the movie also stars Ian Holm, who doesn't appear in the trailer unless he's playing a short, African general. Apparently it is now mandatory that he appear in all movies that begin with "Lord of". The movie opens September 16.
Speaking of the trailer, you can check it out below in hand gun, semi-automatic rifle, bazooka or ICBM quality.
