Vampires, wizards, werewolves and whatever Justin Bieber claims to be made up the bulk of the nominees for the Teen Choice 2011 awards, which were posted earlier on the event’s less-than-user-friendly site. The fine print along the bottom claims that the site is operated by something known as “Teenasaurus Rox, Inc.” Maybe they need to hire a non-prehistoric web designer.
But you’re not interested in Internet interactivity. You want to hear about Teen Choice nominees so you can log on and vote for your favorite every day between now and the ceremony, which will be telecast on FOX on Sunday, Aug. 7. To the surprise of no one, the teen-friendly Twilight Saga: Eclipse cleaned up with 12 nominations, including acting nods for all three leads: Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Like the MTV Movie Awards, the Teen Choice program opts for alternative categories, so Twilight also is up for things like “Choice Movie: Sci-Fi/Fantasy,” where it will compete against Super 8, Pirates of he Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
As for Potter, it scored 5 nominations and will win nothing (again, basing it on the complete shut out it suffered at the hands of Twilight at the MTV Movie Awards).
Scanning the full list of nominees, I’m seeing a lot of love for The Roommate, with nods for “Choice Movie: Drama” as well as acting nods for Minka Kelly and Cam Gigandet (!!). And even though Bad Teacher only came out a week ago, the film grabbed a “Comedy” nomination as well as nods for both Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz. Man, those teens Tweet their support in record time.
Toughest category to call? Hands down, it has to be “Choice Movie: Hissy Fit,” where voters will have to select between the alien in Super 8, Ed Helms in The Hangover Part II, Robert Downey Jr. in Due Date and Mark Wahlberg in The Other Guys. My guess is they all lose to Kristin Wiig from Bridesmaids, who attacked a fountain of chocolate. That has to count for something.
A full list of Teen Choice movie nominees can be found below. In the meantime, visit the official site, where you also can register to cast ballots every day between now and the show. But honestly, if you aren’t voting for Twilight, you are throwing your vote away, because that thing’s teen catnip during “awards” season.
