Every once in a while you get a movie that really isn’t very good, but some people still love it. Underworld is one of those examples. Despite a critical reaming and Scott Speedman in a starring role, Underworld gained a huge fanbase just by putting werewolves and vampires in battle with each other much like World of Darkness has done for years. Add the element of Romeo & Juliet, and you’ve got a hit. A cheap, critic ally-hated, hit.
So now comes the sequel. It’ll be interesting to see what they can do this time, since Romeo & Juliet (in this case Selene and Michael) are now together and hated by both families. That’s okay - they’ll be safe from vampires and werewolves as long as Michael can turn into the brutal super-smurf which, from the looks of the trailer, is the actual goal of the movie’s plot: make more smurfs.
