Ever since we heard that Underworld 3 would be happening without Kate Beckinsale, there’s been an almost universal outcry against it from the franchises’s fans. Bear in mind that these are people who even like Underworld 2, they’re a pretty long suffering bunch. But from the literally hundreds of messages I’ve gotten on the subject both in email and in our comments section it seems pretty clear that if Sony makes an Underworld without Kate, nobody will be interested. Hell, the world was barely interested with her.
For whatever reason, it looks like Underworld 3 is happening anyway. Bloody-Digusting was there at Comic Con this weekend when Sony announced that they’ve hired special FX supervisor Patrick Tatopoulos to helm it. They also hinted that we’ll be getting more Underworld 3 announcements later this week. It’s very unlikely that those announcements will include the return of Beckinsale. It’s all but certain at this point that she wants nothing to do with the film, which is supposed to be a prequel. Personally, I’m betting that whatever announcement Sony makes, it’ll involved Underworld 3 going straight to DVD.
