Universal Celebrating 100th Anniversary With Special Blu-Ray Collection
Universal Studios reached its 100th anniversary epoch this year. To celebrate the milestone, the home entertainment department is putting together a pretty spiffy collection of films spanning from the 1930 classic All Quiet On The Western Front to 2010’s Despicable Me. The collection will feature many key films created in the history of Universal Studios, and will feature a multitude of genres and styles, not to mention actors and directors. Fans can nab the full collection when it hits Blu-Ray and DVD on December 6.
The Universal 100th Anniversary Collection is a limited edition set consisting of some of Universal’s most lasting and well-known titles, which actually makes the set seem fairly scattered, with gems like The Breakfast Club tucked next to The Fast and the Furious. Still, the collection looks pretty nice, and will also feature a slew of vintage cartoons, several of which were nominated or won Academy Awards.

To prepare for the release, Universal has been rolling out some of its most popular titles on Blu-Ray since the beginning of the year, including the recent Jaws set. Though the studio hasn’t released the full price of the 100th Anniversary Collection, it will likely be on the expensive side, which is why it is nice fans can obtain the titles singularly, as well. Still, the individual releases won’t have some of the pizzaz the collection will have, with bonus features including countless hours of featurettes alongside a 72-page, full color book and a 15-track collection of music scores.
