Vampires Fighting Zombies?
Charlie Huston’s novel “Already Dead” has been called a fiendishly original take on vampires. Variety says it’s about to become a movie. Will it remain as innovative on screen? The vampire genre sure could use a shot in the arm.
Scott Rosenberg, who should be forgiven for writing Kangaroo Jack and Gone in Sixty Seconds since before that he had a hand in writing High Fidelity, has been hired to adapt Huston’s book into script.
Though the book is supposed to be original, it sounds a little like your average zombie movie/I Am Legend knockoff to me. It’s about a Manhattan infested by warring vampire clans. The vampires are all really just people infected with a disease, no devil stuff in the mix. Just science gone mad. The story follows a rogue solider/vampire hired by a socialite to locate a runaway teenage daughter. Meanwhile in the mix is some sort of separate virus which turns people into zombies instead of vampires, upsetting the whole human vampire mix.
Actually, it sounds like one big excuse to have vampires fighting zombies. If that’s what this is, then I’m on board. We’ve seen them fight werewolves, why not flesh eating corpses? Sounds cool.
