Wallace and Gromit, the flagship claymation characters from the never disappointing Aardman Studios, will return to their 30 minute television roots in 2008. Variety reports that the clueless man and his faithful dog, last seen in the feature length film Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit in 2005, are going to star in Trouble at Mill to be shown on English television around Christmas time next year.
This will be the first time the characters have been used in the 30 minute format since 1995’s A Close Shave. Director and writer Nick Park will co-write the program with Bob Baker, who also co-wrote A Close Shave and The Wrong Trousers. The plot will involve the duo opening a bakery and solving a murder.
Park sounds burnt out on the feature film game, at least for now. He noted "I love making films for the cinema, but the production of Chicken Run and Curse of the Were-Rabbit were virtually back to back, and each film took five years to complete. Trouble at Mill will be so much quicker to make, and I can't wait to get back into production. I can’t get enough of these two English balls of clay, no matter what the format. So I’ll be looking for it on DVD in 2009.
