The War Games sequel we told you about last month has found a replacement for Matthew Broderick. Production Weekly says it's 'Heroes' star Matt Lanter.
If you're trying to figure out which superpower is his, don't. He's the Cheerleader's powerless videotaping friend. In War Games 2 – The Dead Code he'll play a computer hacker named Will Farmer who begins playing an anti-terrorist attack game against a government super-computer named Ripley. Following the formula from the first film, Ripley goes a little nuts and turns hostile towards human life.
I still don't think this movie will work. The original was a product of the cold war and more importantly, a product of public ignorance about what computers actually are. Back in 1983 computers were scary monstrosities, not friendly purveyors of porn which fit comfortably on your desk. If you have to do it though, I can see Lanter standing in for Broderick easily enough.
War Games 2 starts shooting November 20th in Montreal.
