War Monkeys Pitch Picked Up
People have long suggestd that Hollywood screen writers are simply recycling old movie premises, and up until this point, I have vehemently disagreed with them. Sure, a high school sex romp comes out once a year, but that’s an experience everyone goes through and therefore never really tires. Unfortunately, Dark Horse Indie has just greenlit a pitch that seems to have been stolen directly out of George Romero’s notebook.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio recently approved a Chris Patton story called War Monkeys involving a janitor getting trapped in a research facility with killer Rhesus monkeys. Does this remind anyone else of the 1988 horror goof Monkey Shines? That one followed a handicapped man who was given a homicidal helper chimp. I know the storyline is slightly different, but I honestly think twenty years is too soon for another film about hateful primates. This new version probably won’t even have quadriplegic sex either. What a travesty.
The entire screenplay is yet to be written and no actors have been cast; so, I wouldn’t expect a completed version until at least the end of the next year. Mercifully, War Monkeys probably won’t even open anywhere near you, but if it does, I’m going to recommend seeing almost anything else
