Are you ready for the sweetest Internet video you're going to see today? Unless you saw a hundred puppies and kittens snuggling, in which case send me the link. Before you do that, though, watch this video, because it will make you smile. It comes from Candace Payne, who posted a video of herself to Facebook enjoying one of the simple things in life: Star Wars merchandising.
That was pretty adorable. Candace, who seems to be a big Star Wars fan, judging by her Death Star t-shirt, decided to treat herself to an awesome Chewbacca mask complete with a moving mouth. When the video starts, you can tell that she’s excited about something. She can barely keep a smile on her face while she talks. Candace talks about how this could be for her kids, but she got it for herself. Kids get all the toys; let the adults indulge a little. Her kids can play with it, but at the end of the day, it goes back to her room. You can see that it’s Star Wars related, which is enough to get any fan excited.
She slowly reveals the mask, and the wait is totally worth it because her joy is priceless. She erupts into laughter the second the mask comes out and it becomes one with the Chewbacca growl. This fuzzball really laughed it up. I love how the mask mouth moves in sync with her mouth. It adds to the silliness of the situation in all the right ways. It’s just as Candace says: it’s all about the little things. I really hope she did end up driving home with it on. Visibility probably isn’t great, though.
It’s important to note that this video was posted yesterday, and it already has over 50 million views at the time of writing. It’s gone mega-viral, so people are obviously reacting to it. Star Wars fans come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s awesome to see so many people like and share the video. The official Star Wars Twitter account even helped pass along the video to the masses.
At the end of the day, though, this video made me really want one of those masks. They look fun as hell! Talk about free advertisement. The Star Wars merchandise team is probably living it up right now.
Update: Kohl's was apparently very pleased with the name-drop at the beginning of her video, because they sent Candace's family some Star Wars treats...
