Watch Everything Wrong With Avengers: Age Of Ultron In One Video
Although Avengers: Age of Ultron performed well in theaters and earned a lot of positive reviews, it wasn’t without its detractors. Now that the movie is available on home media, it’s once again a prime candidate for parodies. Two weeks ago, it was an awarded an Honest Trailer that was actually on point with its criticisms. Now the 2015 blockbuster is the focus of a new "Everything Wrong With…" video, and it is brutal.
The folks at Cinema Sins waste no time laying into Avengers: Age of Ultron, even adding a point simply because the Marvel Studios logo was too long. Most of the video is targeted towards the absurd action sequences (particularly the Hulk vs. Hulkbuster battle), the movie’s overabundance of jokes/one-liners (like Hawkeye’s comment about not wanting to be mind controlled again) and story elements that didn’t make sense (Black Widow and Hulk’s romance, Ulysses Klaue’s inclusion, Thor’s visit to the magic hot tub, the list goes on). When all was said and done, the Avengers sequel racked up 166 "sins" over the course of 18 minutes. Ouch! On the bright side, at least they removed a "sin" for Vision picking up Thor’s hammer.
Many felt that compared to 2012’s The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron was a letdown, for reasons that range from Ultron not being as intimidating a villain as we were led to believe to subpar dialogue sprinkled throughout. It also felt like rather than the primary goal being to tell a great story, the movie was there simply to set up what’s coming in Phase Three. Even director Joss Whedon admitted that making the movie "broke" him due to the challenging goal to make it better than The Avengers and pressure from Marvel Studios. This explains why he’s vacated the director’s chair and Marvel has handed directing duties to Joe and Anthony Russo for the next Avengers movies. It wouldn’t be appropriate to consider Avengers: Age of Ultron a failure (unless you’re Disney), but to many, the movie ranks lower on the MCU movie list compared to entries like Iron Man or Guardians of the Galaxy.
Whether you were a fan of Avengers: Age of Ultron or felt it didn’t live up to its potential, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes still have plenty to offer the MCU. Next year most of its members will be appearing in Captain America: Civil War, but they’ll face their greatest challenge yet when Thanos finally arrives on Earth in the Avengers: Infinity War movies. So there’s still a chance for the superhero team to win back fans and continue to impress those who still enjoy them.
