Watch The Russo Brothers React To Winter Soldier's Honest Trailer
When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, few creators have had a substantial impact on par with the Russos. Sure, Jon Favreau brought Tony Stark to life, and Joss Whedon got The Avengers made, but Joe and Anthony Russo effectively turned Captain America into one of the MCU’s best characters. However, that doesn’t mean that their work is faultless. In anticipation of Captain America: Civil War, Joe and Anthony Russo sat down with Screen Junkies to react to the Captain America: The Winter Soldier Honest Trailer. Check it out below to see for yourself.
The folks at Screen Junkies have become known for their work on crafting Honest Trailers for popular blockbuster movies, but they seem to have gone further with this one by letting Joe and Anthony Russo actually react their work on the Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer. For much of the video’s run time, the Screen Junkies ask how they made Cap such a cool character compared to his admittedly dorky (or "square") beginnings. The Russos explain that making Cap cool again was pretty much their entire mission statement, from the action to his general disposition.
However, from there the Honest Trailer starts to tear apart the film's plot holes. Primarily the trailer seems to point towards the fact that nobody stays dead in the Marvel, as well as the fact that it doesn’t exactly make sense that nobody found out about Hydra’s deep infiltration in earlier movies. The Russos for the most part seem to brush off the criticism, accepting that the Screen Junkies aren’t wrong in their analysis of the issues.

All things considered, the Honest Trailer guys let the Russos get off pretty easy because there simply isn’t that much to tear into when it comes to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. It’s one of- if not the- best standalone Marvel Cinematic Universe movie to date, and as such the Russos barely had to defend themselves. That being said, Screen Junkies makes a point to highlight the fact that it’s not the case with every Marvel film. When they did the same for Thor, it was pretty much a bloodbath.
All in all, the Russos have done a commendable job of integrating Steve Rogers into the contemporary age. The Winter Soldier is arguably the best Marvel film to date, if not one of the best superhero movies of all time, and we cannot wait to see what the Russos do for the character in Captain America: Civil War. Be sure to catch the latest MCU adventure when Tony Stark and Steve Rogers finally battle one another next week on May 6.
