Watch Spider-Man Brawl With A Heckler In Times Square

It’s a damn shame Marvel Studios and Sony already locked in on young Tom Holland for the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man solo movie. Because if the casting process remained open, this dude could send this video over to the studios as his audition reel. I think he’d land the role on the spot!

The NY Post has the story of a Times Square Spider-Man who got into character – like, WAY into character – after a heckler started abusing nearby street performers. Apparently this is an on-going issue. A second Spider-Man, who only identified himself as Josh to the NY Post, told the paper:

He said a lot of racist shit. He said, ‘You Muslims go back to your country – you’re gonna’ blow up Times Square.’ He’s been doing this on and off for almost a year."

Well, Spider-Man had enough. He took matters into his own hands and, as the Tweet above suggests, saved the day.

This might shock you, but this isn’t the first time that a costumed Spider-Man created waves in Times Square. It was nearly one year ago to this date that a costumed Spider-Man and a costumed Batman were hanging out in Midtown Manhattan, conversing, when a man tackled Batman, gyrated on top of him, and screamed, "I’m gonna fuck you, Batman!" Naturally, Spider-Man hopped to the rescue and helped his caped cohort. Only, for his troubles, that Spider-Man was arrested and sent to prison. So far, no charges have been filed in the incident that we covered above. Hopefully the Spider-Man in that video quickly swung away from the scene and high-tailed it back to Queens.

Spider-Man continues to ride a rollercoaster of public sentiment because of the way that his movies have portrayed him. Andrew Garfield most recently played the webslinger in two movies for Sony, but because they underperformed (despite doing well at the box office), the studio has made a deal with Marvel Studios to finally bring the hero into the MCU. Tom Holland of The Impossible has been cast as Peter Parker, and he’s expected to make his debut in next summer’s Captain America: Civil War, before moving on to his solo movie. But for a comparison, look at how Fantastic Four currently is being received by audiences and critics. Reboots don’t always work. Maybe The Thing or The Human Torch needs to pick a fight in Times Square to bring some positive mojo to the vibe of Marvel’s first family?
