Weekend Box Office

For the past couple years, the weekend before the official start of the summer movie season has brought us some delightful little surprises, this year brought us Mean Girls. Honestly, who would’ve thunk a Lindsay Lohan fronted badly advertized teen high school flick would’ve done any decent business. But nobody took into effect the aura of Tina Fey, Head writer for Saturday Night Live.

The rest of this week’s releases didn’t quite bode too well as their openings were clumped close together and are found right in the middle of the top ten. Next week comes The Blockbuster Summer Season. Kicking it off is the Hollywood Monster Battle Royal known as Van Helsing and, in an apparent effort to counter the market, the Olsen fronted New York Minute. Which by the way is their first theatrically released vehicle since the 1995 Parent Trap rip-off It Takes Two.....co-starring Steve Guttenberg & Kirstie Alley. I smell something....and it isn’t gold.
