Weekend Box Office

For the second time this year, Media controversy/hype led to box office gold. Michael Moore’s latest documentary landed the top slot this weekend. A remarkable achievement considering it was released in less than a third of the screens as this weekend's other releases. The Passion of the Christ was the first flick this year to take advantage of it’s Media coverage and had a similar per screen average upon its hyped opening. But apparently politics is more controversial then religion, so odds are Fahrenheit 9/11 won’t be seen in average small towns, but rather the big cities. Instead of the Jewish folk being the people that are extremely pissed it’s sort of the other way around now. Funny eh? But that’s a whole other argument for a whole other time on a whole other site.

With it's opening bow of $22 Mill, Fahrenheit 9/11 is already Michael Moore's highest grossing film to date as well as the highest grossing documentary of all time. Also this weekend, that green ogre just won’t quit. Seven million more and it will top Spider-Man as the fifth highest grossing film (domestically) of all time. The little wizard breaks the $200 mill mark, and this weeks new releases perform rather strong considering the weak box office turn out. Don’t be surprised if Around the World in 80 Days leaves theatres within another 10. The way it’s going so far it’ll be out on DVD before Labor Day. Next week.....SPIDEY TIME!!! Anyways, here’s this weeks Top Ten...
