February has arrived and along with it the slew of movies capitolizing on the romantic sentiment of the month.
The Channing Tatum train pulled into theaters this weekend, using the actor's muscle bound hunkiness and built-in female fan base to take the romantic flick to the number one spot. Dear John marks the second largest opening for a Tatum vehicle (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and the $32 million it banked easily covered its minimal $25 million budget.
The news for John Travolta's latest action piece, From Paris with Love, wasn't so positive. The movie took a distant third place with only $8.1 million against its $52 million budget. That's the lowest debut a Travolta helmed flick has suffered since Lucky Numbers almost ten years ago.
The movie that's been garnering Jeff Bridges tons of awards, Crazy Heart, began to capitolize on its actor's fame and finally opened a little wider this weekend. In only 800+ theaters it banked a decent $3.6 million for eigth place.
Avatar ended a seven week run at number one, dropping only 25% to $23 million this weekend. The movie's record holding domestic total grew to $633 million and looks to settle in around the $700 million mark.
