True to form, America once again handed the "crap out of a can" sequel the number one spot this weekend. Granted, there wasn't much else new to get excited about this Friday the 13th weekend , but as much as I didn't care for it, I would rather have seen The Departed stay aloft for another weekend than have creepy powder-gray children groping Sarah Michell Gellar and company serve as the number one movie of the week.
Speaking of The Departed, it held on strong heading into its second weekend, only dropping 30% from last week. With $18.8 million it came out on top of Robin Williams' new comedy Man of the Year. WWE's The Marine snuck in at 6th place with a meager $7 million.

"Hadassah" adaptation One Night With The King, the only new release showing in less than 1000 theaters, made a decent showing, coming in 4th place in per screen sales in the top ten. However, that only adds up to $4 million garnering it ninth place. Once word gets out about its disappointment in the epic film category, expect it disappear fast and quiet. What will be interesting to see is who drops faster, that or The Marine.
The other Truman Capote film, Infamous, fell prey to the shadow of its critically successful predecessor Capote and only earned $435,000 on 179 screens. Terry Gilliam's new disaster Tideland debuted in a single theater to the sad tune of only $8,350 this weekend. That's extremely disappointed given that small releases usually count their per theater amounts in the tens of thousands.
While this weekend was fraught with mediocre films, next weekend has some serious potential. Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated The Prestige will open against Clint Eastwood's latest Oscar monger project Flag Of Our Fathers. Country music fans will be able to watch Tim MCGraw give acting another shot in Flicka while Sofia Coppola's much debated Marie Antoinette opens limited on 800 screens. Expect Eastwood's war drama to have everyone weeping the movie's way right to number one.
