Things were quiet at the cinema this Labor Day. It was about the same as any other Monday for most movies, and that's as it should be. This is a day to be at home cooking out and relaxing. After all, Hollywood took enough of America's money this summer in return for crappy sequels. The latest remake of Halloween took top honors with $31 million over the four day holiday weekend, breaking the record for biggest Labor Day weekend opening. Bear in mind, it's main competition for the title were films like Jeepers Creepers and Jeepers Creepers 2. In other words, movies that would usually open around Halloween but aren't actually good enough to get attention on that particular holiday. Next weekend 3:10 to Yuma looks to rule the box office. Pairing powerhouses Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, the movie is also one of the most critically praised of the year. Other new releases next week include The Brothers Solomon, a movie that no only looks dumb, it seems to appear dumb to its distributors as well, receiving a limited 650 theater release. The engimatic action-flick Shoot 'Em Up, starring Clive Owen and Paul Giamatti will also open up, though no one seems to know how wide a release it's going to get.
