Among the three new releases this weekend, America showed its favor to the funny, even if it wasn't really that funny. The mild Wild Hogs cruised comfortably to the top with $38 million, nearly triple that of its nearest competition. Murder thriller Zodiac took second with $13 million.
The eerie, small release oddball Black Snake Moan wallowed around at eighth place with $4 million (apparently few people were up to hearing Sammy J sing the blues while being wooed by a nympho Cristina Ricci). For the full top ten, check out the chart below.
Next weekend Frank Miller's highly anticipated war epic 300 rushes theaters alone. In 2900 theaters it has a chance of storming all the way to number one, but all that violence and stylized action could hinder its ability to compete with Wild Hogs. When it comes to choosing between stylized Spartan/Persian graphic novel violence and William H. Macy in his underwear, it's not hard to guess what America might prefer.
