Welcome Back Kotter
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back.
Mr. Kotter is returning again, this time to the big screen. Variety reports that Dimension films has finished a deal to adapt a movie version of the ‘70s sitcom. Brilliant comedian Ice Cube, who was ten years old when the series left the air, is slated to produce and star in the film as the title character.
Ice Cube as Kotter? Has the world gone insane?
My first thought on this story was a guarantee that this would become a fierce Dangerous Minds style drama in the telling of a teacher who returns to his old school to teach and finds a group of unmotivated students that reminds him of himself. According to the story though, the movie will be a comedy, with a similar tone to School of Rock.
The deal on the script is currently being worked out, but it appears Tom Brady (The Hot Chick) will be handling writing responsibilities. There hasn’t been any word as of yet from John Travolta’s people regarding his attempt to jump-start his career again by appearing in a movie version of the show that made him famous.
