So He's Just Not That Into You was a non-narrative advice book turned into a movie, but at least it focused on an aspect of human behavior that's been the subject of countless movies: dating. But What To Expect When You're Expecting, also a non-narrative advice book, doesn't exactly talk about the most cinematic topics: breastfeeding? Stretch marks? Pre-natal yoga?

And yet, because we are a culture that loves nothing more than to watch movies about something we're already familiar with, there is going to be a movie based on What To Expect When You're Expecting. According to THR, the Lionsgate project will be fairly similar in style to He's Just Not That Into You, following seven couples "as they experience the thrills, terrors, surprises, aches and pains of preparing to embark on life's biggest journey, parenthood." Oh dear.

I can pretty much see exactly where this movie is going, and yeah, I'll probably see it. But I've got to object on principle to having a movie based only vaguely on a reference book, because, come on, that's just shallow. Not unexpected, but definitely shallow.
