Whedon International
I would really LOVE to know who is in charge of marketing Serenity, because their advertising campaign confuses the hell out of me. The trailer is great, but everything surrounding it just leaves me lost and a little bit dizzy. Take for instance their recent focus on the ass-kicking character of River. I haven't seen all of "Firefly" yet, but I've seen most of it… and honestly she's probably the least interesting character on it. Yeah, there's all this mystery surrounding her, but on the list of cool character's she's really pretty far down at the bottom. So I can't see pushing her as the star of the movie doing much for existing "Firefly" fans. And she's not scantily clad, so it's not like pushing her on the poster will do much for anyone else. Angelina Jolie has the hot kung fu babe market covered.
Now comes the latest Serenity poster. This is the international version, and I picked it up over at ComingSoon. Click here to see their bigger version. What the heck kind of movie are they advertising? It looks like they're marketing Krull. I don't want to see Krull. Nobody did. Nobody wanted to see "Firefly" when it was a TV series either… perhaps we're getting to the root of the problem.
Look at the international poster for yourself below.
