James L. Brooks is headed behind the camera again. Even though the man has had quite a prolific career, very little of it has been with Brooks in the director’s chair, with the upcoming untitled comedy only the sixth movie for Brooks as director. The last flick didn’t work out so well for Brooks (Spanglish), but his new movie looks like it’s getting off on better footing thanks to its first major cast member - Reese Witherspoon.

The actress has signed on to the comedy according to Variety, although those about the only details available on the project, which even has its description under wraps. The only other real information about the picture is that it will be an ensemble piece with at least three major characters, both written and directed by Brooks.

Witherspoon is definitely a strength for the movie, with a lot of potential on both the comedic and dramatic side of things. In fact, I’m kind of excited to hear Witherspoon would join a project like this. Ever since she got all of that acclaim with Walk the Line she’s stayed predominantly in the realm of comedy. Seeing her star in something akin to Broadcast News or Terms of Endearment would be very good for the actress.
