Wonder Woman Is Adding An Oscar Winning Actress

If you’ve been paying attention, you already know that superhero movies are shockingly popular. Where they were once a more fringe endeavor, they’re now very much the mainstream, and attracting the highest quality of actors to appear in them—just look at the incredible cast of Doctor Strange. Not to be left out, DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman is looking to add Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman.

The Amazonian warrior won’t make her latest big screen appearance until next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but according to the Wrap and their sources, Kidman is in negotiations to join her subsequent solo jaunt in 2017.

There is no word on the precise nature of Kidman’s role, though the report says that she will play a high-ranking Amazonian. At nearly six feet tall, the Australian actor could certainly cut an imposing figure on screen if she wanted to. Though she’s most known for transformative dramatic roles, like her Oscar-winning portrayal of author Virginia Woolf in 2002’s The Hours, how badass will it be to see Kidman get in there and throw down alongside of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman? As if we weren’t excited enough.

While the identity of Kidman’s character is being kept under lock and key, the report supposes that she could play Hippolyta. In the comics she is Dianna Prince’s mother, as well as the queen of the Amazons, and Kidman definitely has a regal air and bearing about her, though we’ll have to wait and see on that front. Though she’s not an Amazon, we’ve heard that Circe is likely one of the villains in Wonder Woman (Eva Green is one name that has been mentioned in connection to the part), and how freaking great would it be to see Nicole Kidman play the antagonistic sorceress?

It will be some time before we know how it all shakes out, but Kidman joining the cast only means good things, and the call sheet already includes Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as her love interest Steve Trevor. There’s even a rumor that Ben Affleck’s Batman/Bruce Wayne may show up and get in on the fun.

The latest rumor we encountered actually indicates that Wonder Woman may serves as a precursor to the events of Batman v Superman, taking place before that film. We’ve heard that it goes down in three distinct timeframes—one showing life in Wonder Woman’s home of Themysciria, another that is set in World War I, and a third that is in modern times, which is where she will reportedly meet the Dark Knight, or at least his alter ego.

Though she’ll first show up in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 25, 2016, Wonder Woman’s solo film, directed by Patty Jenkins, is slated to drop on June 23, 2017, and she’ll also show up in the subsequent Justice League movies to follow.
