Wonder Written
Joss Whedon has been laying surprisingly low since the passing of Serenity. The movie, Whedon’s theatrical directorial debut, performed poorly in the domestic box office (regardless of any defenders pointing out international and DVD sales) and Whedon has been sparse ever since. But all is not lost. Whedon has simply been buried in his next task – writing the upcoming Wonder Woman movie, which he (at last check) was also slated to direct. Well, spies of the internet – start looking for your new holy grail. Whedon tells Sci-Fi Wire the script will probably be turned in some point in the next week.
Continuing the theme of empowerment for girls he started with “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and one of his Serenity/”Firefly” characters, the movie is about ”girls maturing, a rite of passage, that kind of thing”. Hmm… wonder if Wonder Woman will encounter any pillow fights in her rites of passage…
Wonder Woman’s usual toys will be in the film as well: “There will be all of the expected stuff. Of course there will be the bracelets; there will be the invisible jet, the lasso, all of that”
While Whedon expects to be finished with the script soon, he hasn’t shed any light on the identity of the new Wonder Woman, saying flat out that it’s too early for speculation, although he hopes the film will begin production later this year.
