New Writer Hired For Osterman Weekend As Robert Schwentke Keeps Circling It
Summit Entertainment is among several studios still trying to milk money out of Robert Ludlum, now that the Bourne franchise has wrapped and nearly every other Ludlum novel has been optioned out to one studio or another. Their pet project is The Osterman Weekend, another thriller about a man running for his life, this one recently informed that his pals aren't who they say they are and may be responsible for a murder.
Red director Robert Schwentke was recently rumored to be eyeing the project, and now Deadline reports the studio has hired Jesse Wigutow to rewrite the script, presumably in hopes of enticing Schwentke even further. Things may be a little tricky given that the material has been mined before, and by the legendary Sam Peckinpah no less- his 1983 take on the story starred Rutger Hauer, John Hurt, Craig T. Nelson and Dennis Hopper. Though, given that Roger Ebert panned the movie at the time, maybe the competition isn't as stiff as it seems.
