X-Men: Apocalypse Super Bowl Trailer Is Epic And Crazy
Later this week will see the release of Deadpool, but that’s just one of comic book movies that 20th Century Fox will be unleashing in 2016. Later this summer marks the arrival of Bryan Singer’s highly-anticipated X-Men: Apocalypse, and from the look of the newly released Super Bowl spot, it looks like things are going to get biblical. You can watch the brand new footage for yourself below!
Thanks to 20th Century Fox, we've got this brand new look at X-Men: Apocalypse, and from missiles launching to buildings being destroyed by that wispy smoke, the world is going to Hell, and fast. Beyond the face-off between the X-Men and Apocalypse’s forces, it almost looks like the world is falling apart naturally. However, we can most likely attribute that to some strange technology that Apocalypse has unleashed, further showing how dangerous the world’s oldest mutant is. As another example, poor Mystique is getting choked by En Sabah Nur, and her shapeshifting ability isn’t going to help her escape his grasp.
This preview also gave us some first looks at some of the main players using their special abilities. In the middle of a slow motion flip, Psylocke manifested one of her energy blades to cut through a tossed car. Then there’s Angel, who is striking at an opponent (maybe Beast) with his gigantic wings. We’ve seen Angel fly before, but to see those wings used offensively is always a treat. (Don’t forget: in their metallic form, Angel’s wings can also launch projectiles.) Aside from a new shot of Cyclops’ optic blasts, we saw the same clips of other superpowered demonstrations we saw in the last trailer, such as Quicksilver running through the X-Mansion and Storm's shocking entrance.
Set 10 years after 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse finds Professor X (James McAvoy) and his students living in a surprising time of peace. Their work protecting the president during the Sentinel attack has given the world a new outlook on mutants – and some have even gone as far as to worship them as gods. Unfortunately, it’s these individuals who make the incredible mistake of awakening Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) - Earth’s first mutant who ruled back in Ancient Egypt and has powers far greater than any other Homo superior who has ever lived. Finding followers in Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Angel (Ben Hardy), Apocalypse aims to take over the world, but, naturally, finds resistance from the X-Men.
Whether it’s in the comics or other media, Apocalypse has always sought to overthrow society to remake the world in his image. So with the help of the Four Horsemen in the sixth main X-Men installment, he’ll attempt to cleanse the world of its "weaknesses," but 1980s civilization won’t go down without a fight. It truly will be a war between the X-Men and the Four Horsemen, and the X-Men universe will never be the same regardless of who comes out on top. Like the tagline says: only the strong will survive.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27.
