X-Men Comic Con Poster Finally Gives Us A Good Look At Apocalypse
The Apocalypse is here. Prior to Fox's big Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the studio handed out a special X-Men: Apocalypse poster to fans in the vicinity. Can you guess whose beautiful mug was front and center? Though it was an artist rendering, the SDCC poster featured our first look at Oscar Isaac as the most fearsome villain in the X-Men universe. Check it out below.
Apocalypse, aka En Sabah Nur, will make his big screen debut when the film debuts on May 27, 2016, and he's ready to bring the destruction. Though the poster only shows his profile and the top of his alien-tech-infused collar, the character looks just as menacing as his comic book counterpart. Director Bryan Singer previously described his work as the disaster movie of the superhero genre, as Apocalypse's terror expands to the entire globe. The Comic-Con poster highlights some of the devestation to come, and things aren't looking good for Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters. This safehaven for mutants young and old has been reduced to fiery rubble in the image.
We caught a glimpse of Apocalypse as a young tyrant in ancient Egypt through the post-credits scene of Days of Future Past. The blue-skinned mutant was seen telekinetically constructing a pyramid as his subjects bowed in the wake of his power and his Four Horsemen observed from the sidelines. Isaac said that Apocalypse sees himself as a God, which aligns well with the comics. Since he's known as the first mutant, he believes himself to be a deity and his Horsemen are his heralds. Based on his origins, we know that Apocalypse has a habit of finding wayward mutants at their darkest of times to brainwash them into becoming his servants. So far we know that Ben Hardy's Angel will be one of them, since Singer shared some concept art for his Archangel evolution online. Caliban is also another likely candidate. Actor Tomas Lemarquis portrays the morlock in the film, and Singer revealed his lair on Instagram not too long ago. Caliban becomes one of the Horsemen in the comics, which places him at the top of the big screen's list of candidates.
Battling such a terrifying threat means the good guys need some assistance. Apocalypse will feature Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, Ty Sheridan as Cyclops, Lana Condor as Jubilee, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler. They join Michael Fassbender's Magneto, James McAvoy's Professor X, Jennifer Lawrence's Mystique, Nicholas Hoult's Beast, Evan Peters' Quicksilver, Lucas Till's Havok and Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Stay tuned for more details as they are announced at the Comic-Con panel later today.
