X-Men Gives Fans The Best Look At Jubilee And Young Jean Grey Yet
Filming is now underway for X-Men: Apocalypse, which means we’re starting to get looks at what the main players will look like. Earlier in the week we got an official image of Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and today director Bryan Singer gave us an image the movie’s other young cast members: Lana Condor as Jubilee and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. Take a look!
Singer posted this picture on Instagram, and it’s by far out best look at these two yet at the mall where filming is taking place. On Monday, unofficial set pictures were posted online that featured these two, Smit-McPhee and Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops, but those were obscured by potted plants and the fact that the photographer took the pictures on a different floor in the mall.
Fortunately, this new photo from the 2016 blockbuster’s second day of filming is unobscured and completely clear. As you can see, Condor is rocking a yellow jacket that, aside from its length, looks just like what her comic book counterpart wears. The pins are also a nice touch, and while the jacket partially covers her shirt, the line on it appears to read "Bring on the light." Turner isn’t wearing anything nearly as colorful or distinctive, but with that red hair, she certainly looks a younger version of the telekinetic mutant. The set photos previously mentioned also showed Smit-McPhee’s Nightcrawler wearing a Thriller-style jacket, so clearly this movie will be taking advantage of the ‘80s fashion.
In addition to returning cast members from the First Class trilogy, X-Men: Apocalypse will X-Men mainstays in their younger years, many of whom will be Professor Charles Xavier’s students. It’s unclear whether they will be fighting alongside the older characters against Apocalypse or just learning how to use their special abilities, but at minimum we will learn how they came to be under the tutorage of Professor X in the 1980s. In Jean Grey’s case, she’ll be learning how to use her telekinesis (along with maybe controlling her latent telepathy) while Jubilee will be showing off her energy "plasmoids."
Other mutants that will be appearing in the film include Storm, Angel and Psylocke. While details on the film’s plot still haven’t been revealed, but according to Singer, its aftermath will "impact really the course of history" in that world. You can see Jean Grey, Jubilee and and the rest of the assorted mutants when X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
