The X-Men: Rogue Cut Just Dropped A Sweet Deleted Scene
One of the most fascinating elements of X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut is that its inclusion of deleted material will make us look at footage from the theatrical movie completely differently. For example, did you know that the scene with Michael Fassbender's Magneto retrieving his helmet was supposed to be intercut with a completely different scene? Check it out below!
This new clip comes to us from Entertainment Weekly, and it actually makes what is already a very cool scene into an even cooler one. There is clearly a common theme between the future and past sequences - as they both involve breaking something/someone breaking out of somewhere - and it also gives us a taste of what we can expect to see in the rest of The Rogue Cut.
In X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut, there is an alternate plotline that begins shortly after Ellen Page's Kitty Pryde has been accidentally stabbed by Wolverine. It's decided that the only way to try and keep Logan's consciousness in the past is to transfer Kitty's powers to another mutant. Given that taking powers is Rogue's thing (as played by Anna Paquin), it's decided amongst the surviving X-Men and Magneto that she must be brought to the sanctuary. Unfortunately, Rogue is one of the many, many mutants who has been captured by the Sentinels and is in prison. While the others protect Wolverine, Patrick Stewart's Professor X, Ian McKellen's Magneto, and Shawn Ashmore's Ice Man set out on a mission to break her out and try and prevent the future from ever becoming such an incredibly awful apocalyptic nightmare.
In this clip we see both Magneto and Ice Man helping Rogue out of her restraints, but given what we know about The Rogue Cut we have one big question: where's Professor X? Did the team have to split up at some point in the mission? Did he get captured? Given the end of X-Men: Days of Future Past, we know that he will survive the whole ordeal, but exactly what his role is during the prison break is unclear. We also still don't know why Rogue has her powers back after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, and hopefully that's something that is addressed.
The good news is that the wait for the alternate cut's release is almost over. The Blu-ray for X-Men: Days of Future Past - The Rogue Cut was announced all the way back in September of last year, but is only now getting ready to come out - set to hit stores on July 14th, and is a total of 12 minutes longer than the version that arrived in theaters last year. The film is also getting a special screening down in San Diego next week in connection to the nearly-week-long geek-fest that is San Diego Comic-Con, so look out for more details on that front.
