X-Men Sequel Could Bring Back Patrick Stewart
With hints of a plot involving time travel for the new upcoming X-Men movie, pretty much anything is possible-- and yes, that includes bending time even further and including an entirely different version of the characters we already know.
Put plainly, it means we might be seeing Sir Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier again. The acting legend was chatting at the Montreal Comic Convention recently when, as described by Newsarama, he gave an X-Men fan exactly what she wanted to hear when asked if he would make an appearance as Professor X any time soon:
He was in the process of saying "Yes, I'll be reprising" when he was cut off, but unless for some reason he was suggesting he'd be playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in a weird crossover move, he must mean he's coming back as Professor X.
Beyond the title-- X-Men: Days of Future Past-- and a planned summer 2014 release date, we don't know a whole lot about the upcoming X-Men movie, which means it's really hard to figure out if Stewart is pulling our leg or not. Clearly fans are rabid to see him return to the role, but we don't know what director Matthew Vaughn has up his sleeve, or if including an older Professor X would even make sense for what they have planned. And unless it's something like the neat trick the Star Trek reboot pulled, wouldn't you think the older Professor X would play a pretty small role anyway?
Speculation is pretty much all we can do for now, so feel free to do so in the comments. It's entirely possible we won't know any of this for sure until Days of Future Past finally emerges on July 18, 2014.
