Zellwegger To Star In Potter Pic
The books have been enchanting children and adults alike for years and now Renee Zellweger is joining in on the British born craze, signing up to star as Beatrix in an upcoming Potter movie.
No, that's not a misprint. It's Beatrix, not Bellatrix and of course I'm not talking about a Harry Potter movie. Don't be silly, you have to actually BE from the UK to land in one of those (though it's OK to have an American director...go figure). No, Zellweger will translate her much practiced Bridget Jones accent to the role of children's book author Beatrix Potter.
Potter is a children's literature legend having authored such immortal characters as Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jemima Puddleduck and Tom Kitten. If you don't remember any of those characters from your childhood you either need to think a little harder or have a serious talk with the people who read you bedtime stories. Everybody who is anyboyd knows Peter Rabbit.
According to Empire Online the movie will focus on Potter's strong will and determination to be independent. Oh, and the fact that she wrote famous books and donated a lot of money to her better her country is in there too. Ewan McGregor, who previously played Zellweger's love interest in Down With Love, is in talks to woo Renee again as Potter's publisher/love interest. Nevermind that she actually ended up marrying some attorney. Oh those scandalous Brits.
Chris Noonan, director of the freakishly successful movie Babe (but not its sequel - bless you Chris) is signed to direct, says EO. No word on any production dates yet, and only rumors as to how long before this British female author biopic concept makes the move to J. K. Rowling. After all, Harry is just as famous and nearly as mischievous as Peter Rabbit.
