Too lazy to read all the wonderful news our insightful crew scours the globe to bring you every day? Too outmoded to have an MP3 player for the podcast? Shame on you all! However, being the generous lot we are, welcome to news:blended, your weekly guide to the most interesting stories reported on Cinema Blend over the last seven days.
CinemaBlend broke a big story this week. In fact, it was such a big story that the subject of the story denied the whole thing just a few days later. But then again, Nixon denied everything at first, and it turned out that Woodward and Bernstein were right on the money. Will Stuart and Josh be thusly vindicated? Only time will tell.
SATURDAY
Transformer ads get some people slightly more excited.
Fake trailer makes you puke.
On Saturday we commented on the new Transformers TV spots. Some people who thought the movie was going to totally suck have seen the ads and think it might not suck quite so much. It appears some stuff gets blowed-up. Also, nothing gets blowed-up in the fake movie trailer that Eli Roth directed to be shown during Grindhouse but several really, really disgusting murders are shown. As an homage to old horror trailers, it’s pretty good. It’s also something I never want to see again.
SUNDAY
CINEMABLEND NEWSLETTER
Your Daily Blend of Entertainment News
Blades of Glory makes more money than other movies.
Sunday saw the most shocking event of the year, Blades of Glory winning the box office title during its first week. CinemaBlend favorite The Lookout finished something like sixty-third.
MONDAY
Speed Racer’s parents will be played by actors.
Pretty good movie with pretty good actress to get pretty lousy remake with pretty lousy actress.
Monday was Remind-Ed-of-the-Old-Days-Day. I was a huge "Speed Racer" fan as a kid but not particularly bright. I didn’t realize until years later that the reason for the odd dialogue was that it was originally done in Japanese. Now they are going to make a movie (in English, I think) that will have John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as Speed’s parents. Also, Disney is going to remake Adventures in Babysitting. This is a movie that isn’t such a classic it can’t be remade, but a lot of us think it was better than it should have been and there is no way having Raven-Symone involved in the remake is going to lead to anything but crapola.
TUESDAY
Josh says some stuff that makes some people pretty dang huffy.
On Tuesday, all Hell broke loose. If your version of Hell is a movie critic ranting about some obsessive fans and those fans telling the critic he should pound sand. Josh Tyler ranted because Serenity won a favorite movie poll and basically called the movie’s fans psychos. Boy, you send a guy one death threat and he starts stereotyping. The fans responded and one of them even quoted Teddy Roosevelt. Well done my friend! Josh had no Presidential quotes in his rant, so score one for the obsessives. We also had about 35 other news stories that day, but who cares.
Another Die Hard movie makes me sad.
Maguire could shoot webs out of his arms again.
Wednesday was a big days for the 4th movie in a couple of action series. First, we showed you two trailers for Live Free or Die Hard, a movie that some people on this site seem excited about. I’m not sure why. The first movie was great, but the second was marginal and the third was an embarrassment. At the rate they are going, this one will be worse than the American Pie sequels. Then, Tobey Maguire said he might do Spider-Man 4. The primary sticking point seems to be the participation of Sam Raimi as director. I hope they all come back, a new director and star would feel a little too Batman Forever, the beginning of the end. .
THURSDAY
Have Chinese turkey next Christmas in honor of Bob Clark.
Your daughters skanky doll becomes a movie.
A moment of silence for the death of Bob Clark. He and his son died in a car crash this week. I think A Christmas Story is one of the all time great films. He also did more with Porky’s than was reasonable to expect. He’ll be missed. Demonstrating just how much he’ll be missed was the story about how slutty dolls, called Bratz, will be made into a movie. The movie will star some young female actresses you don’t know.
FRIDAY
Studio says Boyle is involved in 28 Weeks.
Boyle says Boyle is not involved in 28 Weeks.
Stills from movie Boyle may or may not be involved in.
We had a full week of 28 Weeks Later claims and counter-claims about just how much Danny Boyle is involved. Fox Atomic says he directed scenes and he says that he’s just the executive producer and has done nothing. Who’s telling the truth? Since I believe everything I read on the Net, I’m going to say both, but Fox Atomic claims to have pictures. The fact that they don’t have video of him actually saying "ok, ACTION" or something is a little suspicious, but obviously these two needed to get on the same page before anyone opened their mouth.
That’s all for another week of news blending. It’s like what you get at Jamba Juice, but cheaper and not quite as healthy. If you liked it or didn’t, leave some feedback. Also, read our news section, we aren’t always first but we won’t be undersold.
